SMC Alert

SMC Alert is San Mateo County's emergency notification system, used to contact you immediately during urgent and emergency situations, including wildfire evacuations. Every household in the county should have every phone registered.

What It Does

SMC Alert sends emergency and non-emergency text and voice messages to the contact points you choose:

  • Email accounts
  • Cell phones, smartphones, and tablets
  • Voice messages to landline phones at home and work

SMC Alert is free (your carrier's message rates may apply) and available in all cities and towns in San Mateo County. You choose which areas you want alerts for, so you can follow your home, workplace, and children's schools at once.

Alerts are one half of the system. Your zone is the other. Evacuation warnings and orders in San Mateo County are issued by zone through Genasys Protect (formerly Zonehaven). Look up your zone name now and write it into your evacuation plan, so that when an alert names your zone, you already know it means you.
